For example, due to the higher costs and longer lead times associated with certified stands, operators often choose PMA stands. Economics is another consideration, as non-OEM stands usually cost significantly less than certified stands. Additionally, the pool of non-certified stands is typically larger, making them easier to locate.

There is no FAA requirement to use OEM-certified stands. Another key difference between OEM and PMA equipment is that the initial investment required to acquire an OEM stand is far greater than that required for a PMA stand. Airlines generally use PMA stands because they approve their own GSE.
